Another Electricity Theft; Chinese Grandma Jailed

A 61-year-old Chinese aunt, Tang Qiuping has been sentenced to 4 months in prison for stealing the national power resources for the operation of the Bitcoin mining machine on private lines, and fined 10,000 yuan. a Local media reported.

This is another case of Power theft to mine Bitcoin. Bitcoin mining takes a lot of power and the profit is not so favourable especially with the current price and the bear market which is just rounding up.

Tang Qiuping was charged with stealing about $1,300 worth of electricity while mining bitcoin between January and October 2018.

A local report stated: “The criminal judgment of the Kaiping District People’s Court of Tangshan City, Hebei Province disclosed the case. From January 11th to October 2nd, 2018, Tang Qiuping steals the national power resources in her private home in Dongxinzhuang, Shangping Village, Kaiping District, Tangshan City, stealing electricity and running four bitcoin mines in her courtyard. Some bitcoins were sold before the incident, and the illegal profit was 6,500 yuan. According to the calculation of Tangshan Power Supply Company of Minbei Electric Power Co., Ltd., Tang Qiuping steals 17277.6 kWh of electricity, valued at 8984.35 yuan”.

Tang Qiuping was summoned to the case by the public security on October 2, 2018, and confessed to have committed the crime. On December 26 of the same year, the stolen electricity payment was 8984.35 yuan. In the trial of the case, Tang Qiuping’s relatives took the initiative to refund the illegal income of 6,500 yuan.

The final judgement of the court was: Tang Qiuping was convicted of theft, sentenced to 4 months in prison and fined 10,000 yuan; Tang Qiuping, who was detained by the public security organ, used four bitcoin mining machines, one regulator, and one mobile phone. She is to reimbursed the stolen electricity 8984.35 yuan, and return it to the State Grid North Power Co., Ltd. Tangshan Power Supply Company.
